Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5)
The Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5) supplied by Chelora Chemicals — the stable calcium salt form of pantothenic acid used across supplements, food fortification and feed premixes — exported from Indonesia as fine white crystalline powder with full batch documentation on every shipment.
What Calcium Pantothenate is, and why buyers source it
A working overview of the vitamin's chemistry, why the calcium salt form is used rather than the free acid, and the grades Chelora Chemicals keeps in regular supply.
Calcium Pantothenate is the calcium salt of D-pantothenic acid, vitamin B5, an essential nutrient required by the body to synthesise coenzyme A, a molecule central to fatty-acid metabolism and energy production in every living cell. Pantothenic acid itself is a viscous, highly hygroscopic oil that is impractical to handle, weigh, and formulate at industrial scale; converting it to its calcium salt gives a stable, free-flowing crystalline solid that behaves like an ordinary fine chemical powder, which is the entire reason the calcium salt, rather than the free acid, is the commercial form used throughout the vitamin and supplement industry.
At room temperature it is a white, slightly hygroscopic crystalline powder, freely soluble in water, with only the D-(+)- enantiomer carrying biological vitamin activity — a specification checked by optical rotation on every batch, since the mirror-image L-form, while chemically similar, has no nutritional value and its presence would simply dilute the effective potency of the product.
Where it fits in the value chain
Calcium Pantothenate's largest use is as a vitamin B5 source in human multivitamin and targeted supplement formulations and in food and beverage fortification programmes, where it meets established nutritional reference intakes. A comparably large volume is consumed in animal feed and aquaculture premixes, where vitamin B5 is an essential, feed-mandated nutrient across poultry, swine, and other livestock diets. A smaller volume is used in cosmetic formulation, generally as its related alcohol derivative (panthenol) rather than the calcium salt itself, though calcium pantothenate does appear in some hair and skin-care product lines.
Grades we supply
Chelora Chemicals offers Calcium Pantothenate meeting USP/EP pharmacopoeial and FCC (food-chemical codex) specifications, suited to human supplement, food-fortification and animal-feed-premix use. Each grade is supplied with a batch-wise certificate of analysis covering assay, optical rotation and heavy metals.
How Calcium Pantothenate is produced
An overview of the production route for orientation purposes. Our manufacturing partners' own process parameters and in-process controls are proprietary and are not disclosed beyond what is needed to interpret the certificate of analysis.
Calcium Pantothenate is produced synthetically by condensing D-pantolactone (the lactone form of the pantoic-acid portion of the molecule) with beta-alanine under basic conditions, which opens the lactone ring and forms the amide bond that joins the two halves of the finished pantothenic-acid molecule; the resulting pantothenic acid is then neutralised with a calcium source (commonly calcium hydroxide or calcium chloride) to precipitate the stable calcium salt directly from solution.
D-Pantolactone itself is produced by resolving a racemic mixture of pantolactone into its two mirror-image forms, since only the D-form carries vitamin activity, and this resolution step is one of the more demanding parts of the overall route given how similar the two enantiomers are in every property except their biological activity and optical rotation. The crude calcium pantothenate is purified by recrystallisation, with particular attention paid to confirming optical purity, since the finished vitamin's potency is defined entirely by its D-form content.
Industries and processes that use it
Calcium Pantothenate is consumed across human supplementation, food/beverage fortification and animal feed premixes. The fields below account for most of the demand we see through our export desk.
Multivitamin & Supplement Formulation
Formulated into multivitamin tablets, capsules and powders as the vitamin B5 source, meeting established nutritional reference intakes.
Food & Beverage Fortification
Added directly to food and beverage formulations during processing to meet mandated or voluntary vitamin B5 fortification levels.
Animal Feed & Aquaculture Premixes
Included in livestock, poultry and aquaculture vitamin premixes, where vitamin B5 is an essential, feed-mandated nutrient across most commercial diets.
Cosmetic & Hair-Care Formulation
Used in some hair and skin-care product formulations, in a market where the related alcohol derivative (panthenol) is more commonly specified.
How the material is typically formulated forward
The vitamin's water solubility and defined optical purity requirement govern almost all of Calcium Pantothenate's further formulation behaviour. The categories below account for most of the ways it is converted into a finished product.
Multivitamin Tablet/Capsule Formulation
Blended with other vitamins, minerals and excipients and compressed into tablets or filled into capsules as part of a multivitamin or targeted B-complex supplement formulation.
Food/Beverage Fortification
Added directly to food or beverage formulations during processing to meet mandated or voluntary vitamin B5 fortification levels.
Feed Premix Blending
Blended into a concentrated vitamin premix that is then incorporated at a low inclusion rate into complete animal feed or aquaculture formulations.
Cosmetic Formulation Blending
Dissolved into the aqueous phase of certain hair and skin-care formulations, where it is included as a vitamin B5 source.
Calcium Pantothenate against related vitamin ingredients we supply
Buyers sourcing Calcium Pantothenate for multivitamin or premix formulation often also need the other B-complex and fat-soluble vitamins in the same product. A quick reference to what else is on our regular supply list.

Exact physical constants and purity specifications are confirmed per batch on the certificate of analysis — treat the notes above as a sourcing guide, not a specification sheet, for products other than Calcium Pantothenate.
Safety classification at a glance
Based on GHS classification as commonly listed for this substance. This is a summary for orientation only — always work from the current safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch.
Not classified as hazardous under GHS; a recognised, widely used vitamin ingredient.
Combustible in dry powder form like most organic solids; store away from open flame.
Minimise airborne dust during milling and packing, as a standard good-practice measure for any fine powder.
Slightly hygroscopic; not a safety hazard, but relevant to packaging integrity and quality.
Standard gloves and good hygiene practice are sufficient for routine handling.
Not classified; refer to the batch certificate of analysis and MSDS for full detail.
This product has a low hazard profile and is not classified as hazardous under GHS; it is a recognised, widely used vitamin ingredient handled under standard good-manufacturing-practice precautions rather than chemical-hazard protocols. Its slight hygroscopicity is a quality consideration rather than a safety one, and is managed through appropriate moisture-barrier packaging. Full handling and storage guidance is in the technical data sheet and MSDS issued with every shipment.
Keeping it on spec between delivery and use
General storage guidance for this grade. Site-specific storage rules, segregation requirements and re-test intervals should follow your own EHS procedures and the MSDS issued with your batch.
Store in a dry, ambient-temperature area in the original moisture-barrier packaging, since the material is slightly hygroscopic and moisture pickup can affect both handling properties and long-term assay. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Re-check assay and optical rotation on a batch held past its retest date before use.
