Polyethylene (HDPE)
The high-density polyethylene resin supplied by Chelora Chemicals — a linear, highly crystalline polyolefin used across rigid packaging, pipe and blow-moulded containers — exported from Indonesia as virgin pellet with full batch documentation on every shipment.
What HDPE is, and why buyers source it
A working overview of the resin's linear, highly crystalline structure, how that structure governs its rigidity, and the grades Chelora Chemicals keeps in regular supply.
High-Density Polyethylene is a polyethylene resin, either an ethylene homopolymer or a copolymer with only a very small amount of comonomer, polymerised to give a predominantly linear chain with little to none of the branching found in LDPE or LLDPE. That linearity lets the chains pack closely into a dense, highly ordered crystalline structure, which is the direct source of HDPE's higher density, greater stiffness, higher melting point and better chemical resistance relative to the more branched polyethylene grades.
At room temperature it is supplied as an opaque white pellet, reflecting its high crystallinity (crystalline regions scatter light more than the amorphous regions typical of LDPE). It processes on standard blow-moulding, injection-moulding, pipe-extrusion and film-blowing equipment, with the specific grade selected to match the stiffness, impact resistance and processability the application needs.
Where it fits in the value chain
HDPE's rigidity and chemical resistance make it the dominant resin for rigid packaging — bottles for household chemicals, personal care and food products, caps and closures — produced mainly by blow moulding and injection moulding. A separate, higher-molecular-weight class of HDPE pipe grades is engineered for long-term hydrostatic strength and used extensively in water, gas and sewer piping, valued for corrosion resistance and the ability to be joined by butt or electrofusion welding into leak-free systems. HDPE film grades, though a smaller volume than LDPE/LLDPE film, are used where a stiffer, more opaque film is wanted, such as grocery sacks and some industrial liners.
Grades we supply
Chelora Chemicals offers HDPE across blow-moulding, pipe, injection-moulding and film melt-index ranges and density bands. Each grade is supplied with a batch-wise certificate of analysis covering melt index, density and, for pipe grades, the relevant long-term strength classification.
How HDPE is produced
An overview of the production route for orientation purposes. Our manufacturing partners' own process parameters and in-process controls are proprietary and are not disclosed beyond what is needed to interpret the certificate of analysis.
HDPE is produced by low-pressure coordination polymerisation of ethylene, using a Ziegler-Natta, chromium-based (Phillips) or metallocene catalyst system, in gas-phase, slurry or solution reactor processes. These coordination catalysts insert ethylene units into the growing chain in a highly controlled, stereoregular manner with minimal chain branching, in contrast to LDPE's free-radical mechanism, giving the predominantly linear backbone that defines the resin.
A very small amount of a higher alpha-olefin comonomer (commonly 1-butene or 1-hexene) is sometimes introduced at low levels to fine-tune density, stiffness and impact resistance for a specific grade, but in far smaller proportion than in LLDPE. Reactor conditions, catalyst choice and hydrogen level (used to control molecular weight) are the main levers used to produce the full range of melt-index and density grades the market needs, from very high-molecular-weight pipe grades to free-flowing injection-moulding grades.
Industries and processes that use it
HDPE is consumed across rigid packaging, pressure and non-pressure pipe, and film and injection-moulded goods. The fields below account for most of the demand we see through our export desk.
Rigid Packaging & Bottles
Blow-moulded into bottles and containers for household chemicals, personal care and food products, and injection-moulded into caps and closures.
Pressure & Non-Pressure Pipe
Extruded into water, gas and sewer pipe grades engineered for long-term hydrostatic strength, corrosion resistance and fusion-weldable joints.
Film & Sacks
Blown into stiffer, more opaque film for grocery sacks and industrial liners where HDPE's rigidity is preferred over LDPE/LLDPE's flexibility.
Injection-Moulded Containers & Crates
Moulded into pails, crates, totes and technical parts needing stiffness, impact resistance and chemical resistance.
How the resin is typically converted forward
The linear, highly crystalline structure governs almost all of HDPE's further processing behaviour. The categories below account for most of the ways it is converted into a finished part.
Blow Moulding
The molten resin is extruded as a tube (parison), inflated inside a mould cavity, and cooled to form a hollow bottle or container.
Pipe Extrusion
Continuously extruded through an annular die into pipe, sized and cooled to precise dimensional tolerances for pressure-rated water or gas service.
Injection Moulding
Melted and injected into a mould cavity under pressure to form rigid parts such as caps, crates and technical components.
Film Blowing
Extruded through an annular die and inflated into a thin-walled bubble to produce stiffer, more opaque film than LDPE/LLDPE.
HDPE against other polyethylene grades we supply
Buyers sourcing HDPE often also need a more flexible polyethylene grade for a different part of the line. A quick reference to what else is on our regular supply list.

Exact physical constants and processing specifications are confirmed per batch on the certificate of analysis — treat the notes above as a sourcing guide, not a specification sheet, for products other than HDPE.
Safety classification at a glance
Based on GHS classification as commonly listed for this substance. This is a summary for orientation only — always work from the current safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch.
Not classified as hazardous under GHS in solid pellet form.
Combustible; pellets and especially fine dust can support combustion once ignited.
Minimise accumulation of polymer dust/fines, which present a greater ignition risk than pellets.
Processing equipment handles the resin molten; standard hot-surface and fume-extraction precautions apply at the extruder.
Standard gloves and eye protection are sufficient for routine handling of pellets.
May emit irritant fumes if processed well above normal processing temperature or involved in a fire.
Not classified; refer to the batch MSDS for grade-specific guidance.
This product has a low hazard profile in its solid pellet form and is not classified as hazardous under GHS. The principal handling precautions concern combustible-dust accumulation from fines generated during conveying and bagging, and standard hot-surface precautions during melt processing. Full first-aid, storage, spill and PPE guidance is in the MSDS issued with every shipment, and should be read in full before this material is handled.
Keeping it on spec between delivery and use
General storage guidance for this grade. Site-specific storage rules, segregation requirements and re-test intervals should follow your own EHS procedures and the MSDS issued with your batch.
Store in a dry, ambient-temperature warehouse, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, since prolonged UV and heat exposure can degrade the resin's additive package and processing behaviour. Keep bags sealed to prevent moisture pickup and contamination with other resin grades. Re-check melt index and moisture content on material held past its retest date before processing.
How it ships from Indonesia
Standard packing and export terms for this product. Confirm exact figures against your order — they vary slightly by destination and quantity.
