01 / PRODUCT DOSSIER

What Sodium Silicofluoride is, and why buyers source it

Sodium Silicofluoride provides a controlled, low-solubility fluoride source suited to applications where slow, metered fluoride release or a solid dosing format is preferred over more aggressive fluoride salts.

In municipal water fluoridation systems, Sodium Silicofluoride is dosed as a saturator-fed solution, delivering fluoride ion at controlled concentrations for dental health programmes.

In opal glass and vitreous enamel formulations, the compound contributes opacifying and flux properties, decomposing at processing temperatures to release fluoride that interacts with the glass matrix.

02 / MANUFACTURING ROUTE

How Sodium Silicofluoride is made

An overview of the production route for orientation purposes. Our manufacturing partners' own process parameters and in-process controls are proprietary and are not disclosed beyond what is needed to interpret the certificate of analysis.

Sodium Silicofluoride is produced as a co-product of phosphoric acid and hydrofluoric acid manufacturing, where fluosilicic acid is neutralised with sodium chloride or sodium carbonate to precipitate the fluorosilicate salt.

Precipitation conditions, washing and drying are controlled to minimise residual free acid and deliver a consistent crystalline product suitable for precision dosing applications.

03 / APPLICATIONS

Industries and processes that use it

Sodium Silicofluoride serves water treatment, glass/ceramics and selected industrial preservation applications.

Field 01

Water Fluoridation

Dosed via saturator systems in municipal water treatment to deliver controlled fluoride ion concentrations.

Field 02

Opal Glass & Enamel

Opacifying and flux additive in glass and vitreous enamel formulations.

Field 03

Wood Preservation

Component in selected wood preservative formulations for fungal and insect resistance.

Field 04

Laundry Sour

Used historically as a laundry sour to neutralise residual alkalinity after bleaching.

04 / REACTION CHEMISTRY

How the molecule is typically carried forward

Sodium Silicofluoride releases fluoride ion gradually in aqueous systems and decomposes thermally in glass and ceramic processing.

Metered Dosing

Na2SiF6 is dissolved or metered into the water stream or formulation via saturator feed.

Gradual Fluoride Release

The compound dissolves or thermally decomposes, gradually releasing fluoride ion.

Incorporation

Fluoride ion is incorporated into the treated water or the glass/ceramic matrix.

06 / HAZARD & HANDLING

Safety classification at a glance

Based on GHS classification as commonly listed for this substance. This is a summary for orientation only — always work from the current safety data sheet supplied with your specific batch.

H301

Toxic if swallowed.

H315

Causes skin irritation.

H319

Causes serious eye irritation.

H335

May cause respiratory irritation.

Respiratory Protection

Storage

Dry, cool, well-ventilated area.

Sodium Silicofluoride is handled as a toxic-if-swallowed inorganic salt requiring dust control and standard PPE. Water treatment dosing follows regulated handling procedures given its use in potable water systems, and packing is designed to prevent dust generation during transit and transfer.

07 / STORAGE & SHELF LIFE

Keeping it on spec between delivery and use

General storage guidance for this grade. Site-specific storage rules, segregation requirements and re-test intervals should follow your own EHS procedures and the MSDS issued with your batch.
